This course provides students with the opportunity to study the repair and maintenance of motorcycles and motor scooters at entry level. Additional support to improve literacy and numeracy skills is provided. It takes place in purpose-built facilities where students use the latest industry-standard tools, equipment and current model motorcycles ranging from 50cc scooters to 2000cc custom cruisers and superbikes. Much of the course involves direct hands-on work on the motorcycles and engines in the workshops and the use of a wide range of tools and equipment. You will study the following topics: servicing vehicle components and systems; engines, transmissions, braking, steering and electrics; identifying worn parts, removing and replacing components and carrying out basic servicing; changing oil, removing and replacing filters and brake pads; workshop health and safety; developing personal, social and employability skills, including timekeeping, working with others, team working, effective communications and professional workplace behaviour.
