British Sign Language Level 1 - IBSL

Qualification Aim: This qualification aims to enable learners to develop suitable and sufficient skills to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on everyday topics in accordance with the National Language Standards at Level 1. Objective At the end of the qualification, learners will be able to: Understand narrations of simple information presented to them in BSL; develop the ability to describe events, issues or matters in BSL, particularly at work, school or college; engage in simple conversation with Deaf people, both in social situations and in the workplace or at school/college.

British Sign Language Level 3 - IBSL
Audience aimed at: Corporate training only

Qualification Aim: This qualification aims to further learners’ experiences and development in communication through British Sign Language (BSL) with Deaf people on everyday topics involving work and social contexts. A Level 3 course will enable development in functional BSL communication in more depth than at Level 2, requiring the ability to exchange, present and understand information, ideas, advice and opinions at normal speed, and also develop an awareness of cultural interaction with Deaf people who use BSL.

British Sign Language Level 2 - IBSL
Audience aimed at: Corporate training only

Qualification Aim: This qualification aims to further learners’ experiences and development in communication through British Sign Language (BSL) with Deaf people on everyday topics involving social life and at work, school or college. A Level 2 course will enable development in functional BSL communication in more depth than at Level 1, requiring a wider grasp of grammar to cope with some non-routine language exchanges.

A Level 3 course will enable development in functional BSL communication in more depth than at Level 2, requiring the ability to exchange, present and understand information, ideas, advice and opinions at normal speed, and also develop an awareness of cultural interaction with Deaf people who use BSL.
