The Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing provides college based theoretical learning with as well as hands-on training within a veterinary practice.
This course provides an understanding of the role of nursing assistant, providing both practical and underpinning knowledge. It is a one year course which covers nine units.
This course is suitable for participants who are working with dogs and cats; kennels, catteries, grooming parlours, dog trainers and pet owners. You will learn how to cope when an emergency arise.
Comprising theoretical and practical training, once qualified you will be able to register with the RCVS and practise as a qualified ver nurse.
This course covers a wide range of subjects and can be used as a stepping stone to becoming a qualified vet nurse. Throughout the programme you will be given opportunites to practice your handling and husbandry skills.
This course covers subjects that include: anatomy and physiology, applied animal welfare, health and husbandry, professional relationships and communication, diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, anesthesia and nursing.

This qualification will: give an excellent start to school leavers who have an interest in working as a veterinary nurse but want to have a good insight as to what the veterinary industry has to offer. open up the way to the RCVS veterinary nurse training scheme for mature students and those without the required entry qualifications, allow those who are working in practice but who have no wish to undertake the veterinary nursing scheme to gain a recognised and relevant qualification that befits their role, enable those practices that worry about the level of commitment required to offer the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Nursing to have their staff trained to an industry recognised standard.
This course is open to anyone aged 16+ years provided that you meet current eligibility. You must be fully employed in your chosen career path and hold a genuine interest in your area of work, demonstrating enthusiasm and a strong determination to succeed.
The course is aimed at students who wish to progress onto the RCVS veterinary nursing advanced apprenticeship and also those who wish to achieve a stand alone animal nursing qualification. Students who achieve this Certificate and have also attained Functional Skills at level 2 in English and Mathematics may progress onto the RCVS Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
