This course has given me the skills I need to secure an Apprenticeship with a wicked company (TVR Specialist). The staff are OK and don't treat you like a kid. I'm gonna qualify in just over a year now and I'll be earning pretty good money.

Most people here are OK. A few people try and disrupt our class but generally they're ok.

  • Really helpful
    Car Maintenance for Women
    Abingdon And Witney College
    Anon, April 2008
    Overall rating *****
    Course content ****
Really helpful and very hands-on - a chance to try things out, dismantle stuff (and put it back together again) in a friendly environment where you can ask any questions you like. I was a new driver with no idea about cars and I'm sure I'll save the course cost in garage bills, quite apart from feeling much safer knowing my car properly. The course wasn't structured as lessons on a specific item so much as tailored to student's needs and queries.
    Student facilities *****
The course was held in the workshop and had all the facilities and equipment needed, including ramps, tools and provided overalls.
    Social life *****
Small class size; mixed and women-only classes available.

    Car Maintenance for Women
    Insider Art
    Clare , March 2009
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
The course has given me the confidence to work on my own car and try to sort it out myself rather than go straight to a garage. Learning how an engine works puts it all into context, also helps when it comes to driving aswell!
    Student facilities *****
The workshop was perfect for what we needed for the course, all tools and equipment could be accessed to help us work on the cars. Parts of cars in the classroom helped when we went through the theory side of things. The tutors were also really knowledgeable and had lots of experience in car maintenance. They were really approachable and were happy to go over things if we didn't understand them.
    Social life *****
I always looked forward to each class, and got on well with the other students. I hope to stay in touch with a few of them now the course has finished.
  • Car Maintenance for beginners
    Car Maintenance
Hammersmith And Fulham Adult Learning And Skills Service
    Ben , June 2009
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
Really well taught, instructor Raj is knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic.
    Student facilities *****
A classroom begins the lessons with information of theory, followed by practical stuff in the next door workshop.
    Social life *****
It's nice that the course caters for only a small number of people, so you get to know the people on the course and get to see easily everything Raj demonstrates.
  • Top Course
    Car Maintenance
Hammersmith And Fulham Adult Learning And Skills Service
    Ian, July 2009
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
Raj will tell you at the outset of this course that he has no formal teaching qualifications and that he is no a teacher. Don't believe a word of it! Raj's approach to teaching the basics of car maintenance, adding one or two unorthodox elements, is spot on. The theory is well thought and laid out and Raj enthusiasm is infectious, even for the non-petrol heads (who may well become converted). At the outset of the course I knew nothing more than you fill up the petrol tank, turn the ignition and off goes the car. Over the 10 weeks I learnt more on one subject than I could have ever hoped to. Essentially, attending this course and you couldn't fail to learn about the basics of the workings of the motor vehicle.
    Student facilities ****
The college is very well set up with a small classroom next to a workshop where the practicals of getting your hands dirty can take place. There is a range of cars to work on and Raj is happy for students to bring in their own vehicles for inspection and advice - most of the 10 students on the course did this, including myself
    Social life *****
Always looked forward to each session. All of the students inputted into sessions resulting in a very good teaching and social atmosphere.

Raj Anwar great tutor, patient, will explain anything thing you ask again and again until you have understood, always prepared to stay over the allocated time so each student can have a go. Very hands on course, worth every penny (i think this has more to do with the tutor than the actual college). went in knowing practically nothing and I am now confident in preparing a car for an MOT.

Excellent course for those who know nothing about cars. Starts at the basics and builds up. Lots of opportunity to be hands-on and to work on a range of different cars. The tutor (Raj) really goes out of his way to be supportive. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and haveam signed up for the intermedite course already.

Very well kitted out garage with some old cars to work on when students don't bring theirs.

I learnt so much about car mechanics, the lessons were really well organised - the practical sessions were really good. After the course I even changed my best friend's wheel on her car.
    Student facilities *****
The workshop was really well equipped and organised, which helped with the practical aspects of the course.
    Social life *****
Everyone got on really well, I am still in touch with other students.

This course is OK as most of the courses at tower hamlets college are not for me! However I feel I am learning a lot on this course which will eventually help me move on to become a car mechanic. If you want to start your career as a car mechanic this course is OK.
