This 2 day a week substantial course is designed to provide you with a range of fundamental jewellery and silversmithing skills. It is a project based "hands on" course which will encourage you to develop ideas, practical skills and knowledge through benchwork, drawing, the study of design principles, and making links with industry.
On this course we will introduce you to one of the oldest jewellery making techniques – hand engraving. It requires the use of a graver to cut grooves into metal in order to create a beautiful design.

10-4pm 2-day Course A course aimed at beginners and more experienced practitioners to explore etching and texturing techniques on metal. These embellished plates can then be used in the development of your designs and pieces.
10-4pm 2-day Course This course will introduce you to 3-dimensional forming techniques using a hydraulic press. You will explore simple press tool design and manufacture followed by experimentation with metal to produce repeat hollow-form components.
10-4pm 2-day Course A beginners introduction to the Enamelling process. There are many steps to achieving a successfully enamelled piece and this course will guide you through the basics.
Chasing and Repousse are traditional techniques for creating low relief decorative surfaces on sheet metal. The processes involve the gentle movement of the metal surface using punches and light hammerwork thus the non-erosion of material makes this a very economical technique and enables sensitive exploration of textures and designs.
SILVERSMITHING is the discipline title for object making, within which a 'Silversmith' makes tableware and hand-held items. This is NOT a Jewellery course for making Silver Jewellery, please see our Beginners Jewellery Course if this is your preference.

On this 10 week course you will be able to learn how to make silver jewellery and gain knowledge of a variety of Silversmithing and Jewellery Making techniques through undertaking a number of starter projects to teach you the basics over three terms of ten weeks each, totalling thirty weeks of guided learning per academic year. The class uses a structure series of projects to guide you through a variety of techniques involved in making silver jewellery.
