  • ... Saint Martin's, that's where I, caught his eye

I L.U.R.V.E photography. Bruce weber rocks! My all time fab video = pet shop boy's "being boring", beautifully shot by weber! I used to love my Polaroid 1200si. Then for last Christmas I bought a mega groovy digital camera: a mega sexy... Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 to replace my old pentax slr. but oops, my Sony Cyber-shot is a tad bit complicated and I couldn't suss out the manual overdrive. So I enrolled on a digital photography evening classes @ st martins school of art, london! I hasten to add, st martins runs two related digital photography evening classes: the first session covers shooting photographs using your camera while the second session covers manipulating digital photographs in Photoshop. So please ensure you enrol for the right session! Walking into the building you can't help have a sense of awe... st martins has produced the coolest art talent ever. The tutors @ st martins were inspirational, enthusiastic and v fun. My class mates were a stimulating mixture of cool cats who wanted to use their camera for work and those who just wanted to produce groovy digital images for fun. It was a v fab evening class to take but my only downer was a slight feeling of hi-tech inferiority lol! My class mates all had the hugest-ever, mega expensive digital SLR cameras which dwarfed my almost trailer-trash compact camera. For digital photography evening classes in London.. st martins rocks! Thanks tutors... you were sweeties!

Scene 1: A man walks into a college, it's early evening Wednesday. He finds a well equipped classroom with friendly welcoming students. For ten weeks he returns, each week reveals more secrets of how to write a script that'll sell. The tutor has extensive experience in the film industry and also works as a professional script advisor. The tutorials are well planned, incisive, accessible and entertaining. Fade to big smile.

I did this course before I moved to London, and really wish I could have done my A2 at the same college. The enrolment process was quick and easy, the facilities are really good (the art building is new), and the teaching staff are excellent. I couldn't have achieved my grade A without the help and advice of my tutor, AJ Wilkinson, and would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in photography. Excellent value for money!

  • Ideal mix of practical and theoretical learning
    Cavendish College
    rishad, January 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
Here i was thinkin that there were colleges that either concentrated on theory i.e. contextual studies, psychoanalysis of cinema, critical analysis of film and directors, styles of documentary etc... or on the other hand, hardcore practicals like light, sound production, editing (MAC Final cut, after effects , dvd studio, or Avid...), cameras, still and moving images etc.. I found what I wanted when i joined this course, b'coz it had an intellegent mix of theory and practicals. I have modules of documentary film making, projects on ad-film making, editing on final cut, after effects etc.. soundtrack pro, post and pre-sound production. Ive used so many industry standard cameras and most of my work is now broadcast quality. Another modules is production where our lecturer Joseph Alberti, a well known horror genre producer guides us with the intricacies of funding applications and treatment and writing of proposals, budgeting etc.. ...So Im more than content with the course and am quite certain of industry work either in Bollywood or here, on completion.

This course is a real joy; the support and sensitivity of Hariet Provofoot the excellent tutor, enables you to develop your own process. Whilst also ebabling you to inspire other members of what becomes a dynamic group. For the first time i wrote my own poems and read published poets work with an understanding i had developed through discusssions with the group and harriet. I highly reccomend this course.

  • Helping us grow
    Mary Ward Centre
    Maurice, February 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
Under direction from our tutor we look at poetry from the past and present and write our own which we present to the rest of the class and then receive their reaction and comments. The comments are invariably helpful as each of us finds our "voice". It is extra-ordinary hoe our confidence and skills grow. Our tutor is like an expert gardener tending his plants to fruition!

    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I joined harriet proudfoot's poetry-writing class at the Mary Ward Centre in holborn two years ago. her classes are relaxed and thoughtfully structured and harriet herself is a magician coaxing poetry from even the most reticent newcomer. In the first half she'll discuss and introduce the class to a variety of poets, ancient and modern; in the second -half the class reads and analyses its set home work from the previous week. It makes for a very enjoyable and instructive monday afternoon.
