  • Professional PG Diploma in marketing @ London Met
    London Metropolitan University
    Claire, May 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
This diploma is hard work. Be prepared! The CIM reckons there's only a 50% pass rate. Luckily at London Met they have a 75% pass rate and this is really reflected in their teaching. It is thorough, and doesn't just go through the syllabus; it adds to it as well. I think their secret is giving students an edge of extra knowledge in the exam. The teachers are also very amiable and will help you through, although they are a bit busy so if you have a question ask it during class.
    Student facilities ***
Moorgate is base for this course and it's not great. Location-wise it's handy (2 stops from London Bridge on the northern line), but that's about it. The classrooms are basic and hidden in a maze of corridors. There is a canteen that is quite expensive and the library is small.
    Social life ***
Being an evening class everyone is very segregated, so there isn't really an atmosphere. People just go in, get the class done and go home. Everyone in my group was very nice though!
  • Best mba- marketing on offer
    Oxford Brookes University
    Noma, June 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content ****
I am a new International student with Oxford Brookes starting in Sept 07. for the Mba- Marketing course. I can not comment on the teaching methods but being an experienced marketing person seeking to enhance my knowldge , I find that their couse content is both interesting and informative. I was greatly attracted to their offer which promises great international exposure and thus being highly relevant for my career needs.
    Student facilities ****
Having looked at their brochure and scanned their website, I found that they are quite modern. Coming from a third world country, it maybe daunting to see and be told of the vast IT facilities which we only here about. So I believe they have what they say they have and i look forward to enhancing my IT skills -

I have not started yet so I can't comment on the students and other. All I can say is that the Ladies responsible for the pg admissions handled my case very professionally and sensitively. I have not had such excellent service anywhere. They are very good. They apply the human touch eloquently while following their institutions policies - a very rare combination indeed.

  • Copywriting
    Thames Valley University (TVU)
    Yasmin, June 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
This was a 10-week course as part of TVU's Associate Student Scheme. Each course session was split in two with theory-based work first followed by a practical. The course tutor was truly inspirational and made each session fun - didn't feel like learning at all! We looked at the language of adertising, how to write radio/TV/press ads and looked at loads of examples from current media. Did you know that pyramid teabags were just a marketing ploy and had very little with improving the flavour? Or that salman Rushdie started out as copywriter before moving on to writing novels? No? Nor did i! The course was an interesting dip into the the pool of advertising - a great little starter course before taking the plunge into further study
