- I decided to do the course because I really love mosaics in general so I thought it would be nice to learn a bit more about it. What I didn't realize was that I would leave the course with two beautiful pieces. I ended up making a very pretty picture and a vase which have both been given to friends and family members as a present and they seemed to appreciate it. It is something unique and special because you're taking time out of your life to make it.

- Great introduction to printmaking

- This is a great course if you'd like to try different types of printmaking and don't mind getting your hands dirty. You are shown various printing methods, such as monoprinting, monodrawing, and colourgraphs and you can then use them to work on whatever you want with guidance from the course tutor. I really enjoyed this course, the class is small enough to ensure everyone got time to talk with the tutor and the teaching forcussed on the printing methods; so you are taught 'how', not 'what', to print. This was good for me as it meant we could work on our own ideas rather than being given set projects. This course does not include more complex printing techniques such as screen printing or etching so if that's what you're interested in you might be better off with a more specific course, but if you're for a good introduction to printing, or you have printed before and you would like to continue your work using the facitlities at St Martins, then this is a great course to try.

- The first half of the course is structured so that I could experience a range of stencil making techniques within the non-photographic and the photographic spheres. Beginning with autographic (non-photographic) stencil making, we dealt with paper stencilling, direct stencilling using wax crayon / liquid filler and wax resist. We then moved on to learn about the different ways of making a photographic stencil, through the use of hand drawn positives and photographic positives. Practising with these methods was great for planning a print. We also covered setting up your workspace, ink mixing / colour mixing, paper handling, monoprinting and editioning. The second part of the course was more structured around the individual application of these techniques. Together we worked towards strengthening our image making skills. Now that I have attended the All Levels class, you intend to join the ?Advanced screenprinting? class. You could study one of the other printmaking disciplines, either etching or lithography. Enrolling in one of the digital media courses, such as ?Photoshop? or ?Desktop Publishing? would be useful, as they also output to print.

- A slightly biased view as I'm the tutor but you can make anything from pots to sculpture with help and guidance from me in a fully equipped workshop and a good range of glazes. Many past students have gone on to higher education and some have started their own studios. You are welcome to come along on the courses running now to see if you like it. I am also a professional potter and you can see my own work on www.potteryman.co.uk

- I thoroughly enjoyed this weekend course offered by the City Lit and picked up some new skills as well. Not knowing what to expect from the course, I went along with an open mind and to try a different approach to drawing. The course involves life drawing but instead of looking at outlines of forms, you are encouraged to look at the volume or space taken up by the form. This is a lot harder than you would assume. You desperately want to draw in edges but by only thinking about volume, the drawing emerges slowly and (surprisingly for me) looking three-dimensional. In addition to drawing through observation, you also cast a couple of objects. Through this process you "feel out" the volume of the object, this helps later on when you come back to drawing the objects and the casts. The tutor was good; I think her own work is produced in this way and she is enthusiastic about this approach and also teaching it. The class size was reasonable ? there were 10 of us in the class. And it was attended by both artists and amateurs like me, so I recommend it to anyone (I think it runs twice a year but check the college website).

- I'm a dyslexia and had a very bad school experience were I left without qualifications and no self esteem. Since coming to the college, the world of Higher Education has opened up for me. The college has offered a great deal of help both on the course and in the greenhouse, the department which helps those with dyslexia. I'm now looking forward to going to University in September and the world's my oyster! The tutor are really great along with the support offered but be prepared to work really hard. It's worth it in the end. Finally, if I can do well on an access course, anyone can!

- When fashion really hits the street!

- Course content *****
- My course was a 5 weeks (Saturdays) short course in Sports and Street Design at the Central Saint Martins Lane College of Fashion. I was actually going to enrol for a different course in fashion at the college, but after reading the information on the course I decided this would be the ideal course for me, as I wanted to start my own fashion label. I was the only man on the course amongst eight women plus the lecturer but I was really made to feel at home by everyone. The first class was great; we had a brief history of Fashion by the lecturer Lynette, who was great and very inspiring throughout the course. The second week, Lynette took us all to a 60?s fashion exhibition at the Royal Albert Museum in South Kensington and after to Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill to look at current street fashion trends and identify our potential customers. We took pictures of people with their permission and used them to develop our trend boards with a profile of our targeted customer. It was the nature of this creativity and practical application of the course that really made me enjoy it. I learnt so many things about fashion that I would have never learnt before, I went to Portobello Market, which I had never been to before and my fellow students were great to work and study with. Lynnette was brilliant and used her knowledge and wealth of experience in the Fashion Industry to give me brilliant ideas about creating my fashion label. I finished the course with all these great ideas, the wonderful experience of the places I went to and with as a certificate of attendance. I intend to do another course there in January 2007 in ?How to start your Fashion Business?, which will also be run by Lynnette. So I can now confidently say that I do have some ?Street Fashion? sense and I am really looking forward to starting my fashion label!

- An excellent overview of this much neglected subset of Ceramics. The course was absolutely crammed full with surface decorating techniques from mould making to scraffito. Superb facilities, excellent teacher and a nice small group to make it really effective. If I have one niggle is that it's too short and it would be great if Camberwell offered "Tile Making and Decorating II"

- The Hampstead School of Art has offered Mosaics for several years. I have been taking the afternoon class for over 3 years. Norma Vondee and her predecessor have been wonderful, patient teachers. I was a novice artist when I started. I have worked with broken ceramic, glass tessera, marble, and smalti using direct, indirect, and wet cement techniques. Thursday afternoons are my favorite days with 1 on 1 excellent technical support in a relaxed atmosphere. The class is inspiring and has opened my eyes to a different way of looking at color and light.

- This course is great for are levels of experience, unless you're a picasso or matisse of course. Going at a steady pace, you'll learn the basics and study the interaction of colour. Working initially with charcoal progressing to pastels and paints, you'll gain confidence in using strong bold colours and learn how to mix these for better compositions. I enjoy the openess of the class - you can choose to follow the format led by the tutor or work on your own studies. The tutor is very knowledgable and constructive and I found the critique of attendees' work by the tutor also help in the learning process, which also makes for a more friendly and open environment for learning. I have attended this course 3 terms now and would definitely recommend it.

- A friend recommended this course to me 4 years ago and I have enjoyed my time in class tremendously since that time. I have learned mosaic techniques, developed my creative/artistic side and produced some rather good pieces of mosaic art. The atmosphere is supportive, relaxed and informative. I so look forward to Thursdays, my 'creative' day of the week.
